Rabbi Mordechai of Nes'chiz Born: 1742 Died: 1800 A scion of Rabbi Natan Neta (Megale Amukot) and the Maharal of Prague. Rabbi Mordechai was a student of Rabbi Yechiel Michel, the Maggid of Zlotchov , a disciple of the Baal Shem Tov. Rabbi Mordechai served as a Rabbi or head of the Jewish court in cities such as Leshanov, Ludmir and Nes'chiz. Among his students were the famous tzaddikim: Rabbi Uri of Strelisk and Rabbi Klonymos Kalman (Maor VaShemesh). Rabbi Mordechai was among the tzaddikim of his generation who raised money to support the settlement of chassidic Jews in Israel. Rabbi Mordechai became famous as a man of miracles and wonders (ish mofet), helping many Jewish people. During his entire life he never spoke evil about a Jew. Rabbi Mordechai of Nes'chiz said: "There is one thing that is very hard; to earn pure money," i.e. that is not tainted with any sin. His thoughts were recorded in the book Rishpei Aish. May the merit of the tzaddik Rabbi Mordechai of Nes'chiz protect us all, Amen. |
