Vaera and Bo – a little light pushes away a lot of darkness
Archive for the “Torah” CategoryTorah Commentary Jacob established the channel for the central column. And brought balance to the world. His sons came from that pure seed and they were all great spiritual forces. Each of them represents one of the 12 energies of the year (The Zodiac). Jacob was born with a mission to be a chariot to the sefira (spiritual dimension) of Tiferet. This is the central column and the balance. Right is Abraham, left is Isaac and both were not enough to establish the connection to the upper three sefirot (Keter, Chokmah and Binah). He was born perfect and all his actions were to follow and support the spiritual system. The sages in the Midrash tell us that when the angel of the other side (left column system, Sam–ael), saw that he lost the soul of Yitzchak, he went to Sarah and told her that Yitzchak was slaughtered by Avraham and sacrificed to G-d. Sarah cried six times, three to connect to the lower three Sefirot and three to the upper three Sefirot. Her soul left her body and she died. She was 127 years old. What makes Avraham so special? We can find one of the reasons in the above verse from Genesis 22:2. When G-d "Tested" Avraham he instructed him to take his son to the land of Moriah and offer him there on one of the mountains. We all know the story. Some ten years ago I heard a taped lecture by Rabbi Yitzchak Ginzburg and he refers to this verse as a dialog between G-d and Avraham. " וּבִעַרְתָּ " "put away" appears four times in Shoftim. The Zohar brings a discussion about four ways to kill the negativity Lord (Sama–el) with a Sword, Strangulation, Stoning and with Fire. The Zohar quotes (Isaiah 34:5) " כִּי-רִוְּתָה בַשָּׁמַיִם, חַרְבִּי; הִנֵּה עַל-אֱדוֹם תֵּרֵד " " For My sword hath drunk its fill in heaven; behold, it shall come down upon Edom ". Sama-el is the minister (" שר ") of Edom . Moshe begged G-d 515 times (515 = the numerical value of " וָאֶתְחַנַּן " also = " תפלה " "Prayer") to allow him to enter the land of Yisrael . G-d did not listen to him and instead he asked him " עֲלֵה רֹאשׁ הַפִּסְגָּה, וְשָׂא עֵינֶיךָ יָמָּה וְצָפֹנָה וְתֵימָנָה וּמִזְרָחָה–וּרְאֵה בְעֵינֶיךָ: כִּי-לֹא תַעֲבֹר, אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן הַזֶּה. " " Get up into the top of Pisgah, and lift up your eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold with your eyes; for you shalt not go over this Jordan." The book of Deuteronomy is the fifth (or the seventh! See commentary to Behalotcha ) and the last book of the Torah. A man has the power to annul his daughter\’s or wife\’s vows but not his vows. The reason for that is that a female is a vessel and a man is a channel for the Light. They are connected to his Light and If he hears his daughter or wife making a vow, it makes him part of the process. He can then deny channeling the Light from coming to the vessel. G-d in (numbers 25:4) instructed Moshe on how to remedy the situation. Moshe follows the instruction and tell his judges to kill all the people that have joined with the "Baal Peor", the negativity. As I explained in commentary to Balak, the cause of negativity was that the sexual connection is at the level of the Sefirah of Yesod. It is the channel of the Light to this world. This negative join drained the Light of the Yisraelite toward the Malchut of the other side. |
